Aerial combat never looked so good, and in the first episode of this new series, Natsu pits his magic skills against the arrogant Cobra. while Natsu is busy with him, other battles are taking place elsewhere, but can all of them take care of their foes, or will their foes better them?

By the second episode, Natsu is at the mercy of his foe, Cobra who wants to get rid of him as he represents the older generation of dragon slayers. His idea of being the new age version is what makes him determined even though it comes across as insane to Natsu. Natsu thinks his time on Earth is numbered when someone comes to his rescue, though in a freak turn of events, he realises he might not be so lucky. The main point of the story is Natsu and his friends trying to stop Nirvana from destroying Fairy Tail and the lands beyond. This sounds like a good plan until they find that in order to do this, they have to bring down Midnight before he can cause any more damage. As it turns out, only one person  can fight Midnight, but she isn't having such a good time taking her on.

Fairy Tail is known for its humour in most of the episodes, especially with Natsu's Exceed, Happy calling Cobra a flea bag. I like that the girls are drawn shojo style, but some of the men look shonen-ai. Point in case, Gray wondering around shirtless and brooding as Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto. Midnight is another flamboyant character who wears black lipstick and the sort of clothes a 17th Century dandy might wear. Natsu doesn't get on too well with him, nor does Happy. They fight while Cobra is trying to get him to fight man on man, and as they are both dragon slayers, Cobra has to boast that he is better than him as he's a new generation of dragon slayer. Far from being only a children's anime Fairy Tail does have its surprises when normal looking fighters turn into huge, ravening beasts with large muscles and even larger crotches. There is plenty of fun on the first disc, but more to be had on the others.

Point of note: The closing animation is comical as it shows Gray in chibi form strolling round a planet. Top points go to Erza for her fighting skills against Midnight when the other characters might have already lost.

Bonus Material: Episode 64 Commentary, Episode 70 Commentary, Text less Opening Song: "Fiesta," Text less Closing Song: "- Be As One,-" and US Trailer.

Verdict: Fun, daring, great action scenes and deliciously disturbing!
