Being addressed as a knight doesn't really cut it unless you're known as a rogue hero as well, and that is what sir Akatsuki the Brave is, but now that he has killed a dark lord, he thinks others might start looking for a fight. Now he believes it's the right time to leave that world, Alesar and return to his original home. The princess, Miu wants him to stay as she has developed feelings for him, but she can't have it all her way - even if she is royalty. Akatsuki leaves but not empty handed. When he gets to his house in the real world, he has brought back a souvenir of his time there - the dark lord's daughter - and she's not happy about it.
As she is the daughter of a dark lord he killed, he has rescued her and now that he has brought her back to his world of humans he has to fill her in on his world and who he works for. He has to make up a story that she is his long lost sister and he's only just found her - and to make it easier on him, she's got amnesia. As this anime is full of fan-service aimed at a young male audience, you would think this is all the story is about, but you would be wrong. There is a very real and very convincing story that does draw the viewer further into the technologically advanced human world. The main story to this anime is that children started to go missing from their world and they didn't know why. They only knew that they went into other dimensions they only thought of as fantasy. There children were called The Summoned and they numbered in the thousands. Like Akatsuki did, The Summoned can return through portals called Other World Gates, but only half of them have been able to enter them. Of the ones who have returned their powers are occult based fighting styles that have saved their lives while in these other worlds. They are also what the organisation Akatsuki works for find very useful in their human world.
The government have made use of The Summoned as they help harness their supernatural powers for the good of the world, or at least that is what they tell the ones who work for them. Akatsuki knows the truth. He, being a Summoned has to be at their beck and call day and night, has experiments done on him and can't ever seen anyone he knows and loves all for the sake of being "special." Miu has to get used to this new world and the people in it, but she is only introduced to a small group of students who are studying and training at the same academy. Everyone seems to know what Akatsuki is like around women, and the pranks he pulls on them, but they also come to discover his strengths when they do combat training together. Akatsuki's strength also gets the attention of the higher-ups in the organisation who consider him a threat. Filled with fan-service from the start, this is a shonen sci-fi/fantasy series with a difference that many will enjoy.

Verdict: Impressive plot, fun characters and some great antagonists go into making this more than just a fan-service anime.
