Nagate wakes up in a rice factory and leaves his compound even though someone has left a note telling him to stay where he is. His unfortunate fall onto a conveyor belt signals his capture by guards stationed there. Passing out from the exertion, he ends up in a hospital bed, and becomes the talk of the girl's locker room.

The girls are surprised he has survived, originally thinking he was the product of an urban legend. The reason for this is that according to the records they have on him, Nagate Tanikaze is supposed to be dead. For other reasons, Nagate gets to become a guard pilot and mixes with the many male and female pilots in the complex, though he discovers a truth about living above; gender isn't an issue there as women can become men and men can become women, or if a person wants to be partnered with someone else, their bodies change automatically depending on the other's gender if they want to produce children.

CG Hybrid animation comes together with this new mecha themed anime, directed by Kobun Shizuno and based on the manga by Tsutomu Nikei which was featured in Afternoon magazine, Kodansha Ltd. This is Attack on Titan in space for many who have already enjoyed that anime series. For the girls, Nagate is a constant source of interest in his origins, but the fact is he becomes one of the most skilled pilots around and earns the respect he has always wanted from his peers. Fun and games aside, the Gauna are aliens who had previously destroyed the solar system a thousand years ago, and it is rumoured that they will strike again soon. Many were lucky enough to leave the devastation in seed ships and make a new life elsewhere, like the Sidonia, and Nagate gets sucked into the action piloting the Tsugomori in order to take them on himself.

One of the exciting things about this anime is the soundtrack that kicks ass from the very beginning and doesn't let up. There is a lot to like about this anime; the story, characters, animation and incidental characters that make it a hit.
