There is nothing better than watching your favourite series unless it's a movie and this Blu-ray set boasts a double-feature with Tree of Life and Lord Slug which were first released back in 1990 and 1991.

The menu set up depicts Goku and Lord Slug with the menu controls between them and a nice musical score to set the scene for watching two of the most involving movies that compliment the series. As usual, the story has a "just another day in Dragon Ball country" feel about it before devastation rears its ugly head and they are unprepared to tackle the problem, mostly alien. This time around they try to dampen a widespread fire in one, getting creatures to safety and repairing damage in another.

In anime there is always the sense of danger in a world where aliens can cause trouble coming to Earth. Bulma and his buddies have to use all their might to stop any catastrophe, but it's not easy as you can see from the effort it takes to use their power that they could soon run out of it. The Tree of Might comes in handy though as it gives our heroes an added advantage in battle. It is nice to see the dragon back to put the forest right - it's been a while and the effect is quite good. Other than defeating aliens, Goku still has enough to cope with at home as Chi-Chi doesn't like how Gohan is taking after him, bringing home stray dragons.

I can see why this anime attracted Western interest, the emotional content and the need for survival and room for some fun between the heartache is similar to ours even if there are a few cultural differences, like mixed bathing in a small hot tub.

The stories are surprisingly similar, Tree of Might has Goku, Krillin and Yamcha fighting aliens. They have to fight the aliens destroy a dangerous plant that has the ability to drain all life from the planet. In contrast, to be able to fight Goku and co have to take a little of the plant's power. Lord Slug is about a Super Namekian who was sent away from his home planet for being evil, but he isn't alone, he has his own band go with him. This time Piccolo, Goku and Gohan have to fight the invading force.
